NAIL BRACING
Nail bracing is a non-invasive treatment used to correct ingrown toenails or curved nails (onychocryptosis and pincer nails). It involves applying a brace (usually made of plastic, metal, or composite materials) to the nail surface to gently realign its growth and reduce pressure on the surrounding skin.
Description of Nail Bracing- Purpose:
- To correct abnormal nail curvature
- . Relieve pain caused by ingrown or pincer nails
- Avoid surgery in many cases
How it works:
- A thin brace is adhered or anchored to the nail plate.
- The brace creates a gentle, constant upward force that slowly lifts and straightens the nail as it grows.
- This reduces pressure on the nail folds and prevents further ingrowth.
Types of Nail Braces:
- Composite resin braces: Transparent and flexible, bonded with UV light.
- Metal wire braces (e.g., B/S or 3TO braces): Hooked or glued onto the nail edges.
- Plastic strips: Bonded across the nail with adhesive or light-cured resin.
